A recurring element of the Mario series involves the antagonist kidnapping the female love interest. In this game, he specifically kidnaps her to force her hand in marriage, as well as making a public spectacle about the event across the globe - even though it is clear the woman does not consent. However, none of this is portrayed in a realistic or disturbing manner due to the series' light-hearted tone.
