Description

Throughout the book, the author discusses sexual violence that was part of chattel slavery in the US, as well as racist portrayals of Black women as spectacle and as inherently sexually available. In particular, he discusses sexually suggestive mammy artwork, exhibitions of Sarah Baartman, and Thomas Jefferson’s rape of Sally Hemings.
