Description

Season 1: A female dancer is inappropriately grabbed by her male instructor and is offended, although it is later implied the instructor is gay. A young woman is economically exploited by her employer and later raped by her employer on screen. The young woman is called back to the employer’s office, impliedly to be raped again. Another young woman is slapped by her boyfriend. A young woman escapes an attempted rape. A young woman is gang raped off-screen, only the beginning and aftermath of the gang rape are shown. At the end of the season, some of the male characters who were physically and/or sexually violent towards female characters are “redeemed.” The plot supports the popular idea/narrative in Turkish dramas that some violence against women is “gray” or “not as bad,” and therefore the characters who engage in such violence are redeemable, as opposed to irredeemable characters who engaged in “excessive” violence against women.
