The novel depicts an uncle-niece duo who clearly have romantic/sexual interest in one another. Late in the novel there are 2 sex scenes between them and at least one of these has elements of non-consent to it. The niece character becomes pregnant as a result of this encounter. The author seems to handle the material with care even though it should be noted that this is horror genre and some element of the salacious is at work here.
