The film is set over different time periods. 1910s: in narration, we learn the female servants of the house are used by the men sexually, and have operations done to stop them from having children. Early on in the film, we see the maid being groped and tugged at by an older man. When the oldest daughter of the house is given to another farmer to become a maid, she also has this proceedure done (off-screen) and later commits suicide before she arrives at the farm. 1980s: it is heavily implied that an uncle is having sex with his teenage niece, although it is never seen or confirmed. Her cousin becomes jealous when she rejects him and throws these allegations in her face. 2020s: a grown man watches a 12 year old girl as she plays topless in the garden. She is unnerved and confused by this.
