There is discussion of various historical figures involves the detailing of a family situation in which the male head of he family forces his 14 year old step-daughter/daughter in law to allow him to watch a male servant rape her. She is subsequently persuaded to accept her "relationship" with the servant as consentual and ongoing. The head of the family then has another servant rape his wife, the younger girls mother. The male servants involved were coerced by the head of the family, their employer, to commit these acts, as well as perform sexual acts with the head of the family himself. These events are discussed as a narrative based on testimonies made by the participants at the subsequent criminal trial brought against the head of the family. The author recounts these events with sympathy for the victims as well as discussions of the social climate in regards to women's rights, sexuality, and class dynamics.
