Description

Set in Trinidad, a small, close-knit community where everyone’s in everyone else’s business, the story follows a woman who had an affair with a powerful, corrupt politician before the events of the book. She was coerced into sex repeatedly through alcohol. It is revealed the politician had similar affairs with other vulnerable, younger women. After her affair becomes public, she faces widespread slut-shaming and victim-blaming, both online and in person, making it hard to find or keep work. Meanwhile, the politician’s career and personal life remain unaffected.
