Description

While the elements of sexual violence are toned down a lot from the original cartoon (the female protagonist is an adult and she is not forced to kiss the male villain, nor does he attempt to make her magically fall in love with him), there is still an attempted forced marriage. The villain tortures the female protagonist's father and friend with magic until she agrees to marry him to save them. He also acts in a very misogynistic way to her throughout the film, telling her to be quiet and know her place, and during the forced "marriage" ceremony he touches her chin to make her look at him. However, she escapes before she is forced to say "I do". The film overall significantly expands on the female protagonists empowerment arc from the original and has a positive message, but the threat of forced marriage (while more subtly and sensitively portrayed than the cartoon) is still present and could be triggering.
