Description

S1E1: attempted rape (49:00-50:00) and physical violence from a man towards the female lead. S1E6: on-screen rape, where the wishes of a man not to have children are disregarded by the female lead, his wife (48:00-54:55). This rape of a Black man by a white woman is presented as a midsunderstanding between husband and wife. The victim is blamed because he 'lied' to his wife. Season 2: no rape depicted or mentioned. Season 3: no rape or sexual assault. S4E2: a maid is grabbed on the behind by a gentleman as she attempts to do her job. Later on, several men attempt to assault the same maid outside the building. They are interrupted by another maid and another man who put an end to the assault attempt. S4E7: a character is pressured into a medical vaginal exam after explicitly stating that she does not want one and is visibly both uncomfortable and upset whilst enduring it (29-32.11). It is handled sensitively and accurately portrayed as traumatic. The show presents the exam with solemn toleration and subtle horror. Though it passes the message of assault on well, this will be triggering to viewers who have faced sexual violence, especially in a medical sense, or those that felt as though they had no way out. Worthy of note: the female lead, who is in a relationship with a 29-year old man, is 21.
