Description

The main character was violently gang-raped as a young teenager. While this happens well before the book starts and is not central to the plot, he is deeply traumatized by it, and both the actual event and his emotional reaction to it are referenced frequently, sometimes in detail. Additionally, another character, who is a minor, is implied to have been sexually abused by his uncle, and it is later revealed that his family made a deal to force him into marriage with an adult man (this plotline is dealt with in more detail in the next books in the series). More specific warnings: - About 2/3 of the way through the book, the main character is forced to relive his rape through magical means. This is stopped before the actual assault occurs, but he has an extremely vivid flashback of the events leading up to it and is deeply upset by the experience. - Close to the end of the book, one of his rapists reveals his identity to him and taunts him about it, including making a very explicit reference to the actual events of the rape. - The main character's society has a culture of victim-blaming, which he discusses being a target of (and is occasionally shown to experience on the page).
