Description
The premise of the book is that the protagonist keeps being sent back in time to save the life of her ancestor, who was a slaveholder. In her journeys to the past, she realizes that, in order to protect her own existence in the future, she has to ensure that her slaveholder ancestor rapes her enslaved ancestor so that the latter will bear a child. This does end up happening, and the enslaved ancestor commits suicide after giving birth.
Towards the end of the book, the slaveholder ancestor attempts to rape the protagonist. She fights him off and kills him.
