This book contains
- repeated domestic violence (husband on wife) in flashbacks: description of bodily damage in the aftermath; some details of particular occurrences including while protagonist was pregnant;
-marital rape- referenced without detail multiple times, often in conjunction with some detail about domestic violence being given.
These passages can all be avoided by careful skimming and/or outright skipping of the flashbacks about Grandma Gatewood's marriage that are interwoven at points throughout the narrative.
There is also one very brief teen-and-teen rape mention (a news story, not developed characters) in the section about rising teen/youth violence in the news in the early 1950s.
