Description

Adaptation of the book of the same title by Maggie O'Farrell. This is a historical drama based on the home life of English playwright William Shakespeare and his wife, Agnes. The main relationship that drives the film is consensual and nonabusive, but there are upsetting ways which patriarchy constrains and limits Agnes, the female protagonist. Worthy of note: The female protagonist must ask her brother permission to marry as she is considered his property. At some point, she is restrained and forced to give birth in a manner that she is not comfortable with. There is also domestic violence between a father and male family members.
