Description

This sci-fi drama is about a western-based theme park populated by humanlike android "hosts" at the disposal of high-paying human "guests" that indulge their wildest fantasies without fear of retaliation. Violence is a running theme in the show, including sexual violence, but rape or sexual assault are not depicted explicitly or gratuitously. The first episodes set the tone of the characters' struggles, and showcase the hosts' fundamental helplessness to regular abuses by humans. But the overall show, although filled with regular western gun violence, android body horror, and sci-fi psychological terror, follows the journey of androids reclaiming agency and justice against their human abusers. S1E1: several scenes involve implications of the rape of androids by humans, or by androids. For instance, two (android) men talk about how the possibility of raping an elderly woman after murdering her, but get shot before anything happens (9.30-10.00). Then, the viewer sees a female (android) main character slapped and dragged off with the implication that she is about to be raped (13.00-14.20). The fading screams and images overlap with another off-screen conversation before restarting the daily loop. S1E3: there is an attempted rape of a main character where the victim is dragged into a barn. She does, however, escape by murdering the attacker (52:30-53:30). Season 2: a woman reprograms her boyfriend to be more loyal. Season 3: a character disguises herself as someone else, and has sex with that character's husband. Season 4: many people are not in control of their bodies. S4E5: a man says he could do anything he wants (rape) with someone's wife.
